Poker Room Certification

logofinalThe “Raise It Up" Movement is a formal conversation with the industry formed by the Women's Poker Association. Poker players recognize in order to expand the game, the culture and environment in poker rooms needs to be elevated. Together, poker players, industry partners and poker rooms become the driving force for growth in poker.

To Elevate the Game of Poker!

Implement a global movement to raise the RESPECT and FUN in poker. We endorse a zero tolerance harassment policy embraced by the poker world. When we RAISE the culture of inclusion and diversity, we ELEVATE the game and promote GROWTH in poker.

The largest growth potential in poker is women.

Women’s Poker Association was created to increase awareness and identify areas of improvement necessary to bring more women into the game. In support of these efforts, WPA developed a 3-Part program for the industry - Awareness, Certification and Education.

What We Know

  • 25% of online players and poker content viewers are women
  • Only 4% of live poker players are women

A recent WPT Women’s Poker Summit was conducted to identify barriers preventing  women from playing in live environments.

The number one reason women don’t play live is fear of potential harassment and abuse in live play.

WPA committed to creating a solution.

How do we improve poker and create a place where women feel welcome to play?

RAISE THE RESPECT - Create awareness around your in-house policies on zero tolerance of abuse. Commit to #RaiseItUp! and be part of this important movement.

➤ Initiate open discussion to improve playing conditions
➤ Have your team wear the #RaiseItUp pins or patches
➤ Identify a team member who can share the provided #RaiseItUp information
➤ Clearly display the #RaiseItUp commitment on posters or flyers
➤ Display the #RaiseItUp icon on all your business collateral (flyers, website, newsletters, email marketing, social media, pamphlets, and press releases)

RAISE THE FUN - WPA will certify your property as a “#RaiseItUp Poker Room” when you commit to be part of the #RaiseItUp movement and fulfill the necessary requirements. This awareness movement is a wonderful way to publicly show your commitment to women in poker.

➤ Clearly display your rules near the entrance of your poker room - include "zero tolerance" of abuse or harassment
➤ Conduct annual cultural awareness & sensitivity staff training

➤ Display your provided WPA Certification in your room
➤ Include your WPA Certification on your social media and ad campaigns. (Websites, Facebook, Advertising, etc)
➤ “Like”, “Retweet” and support social media efforts by sharing posts
➤ Support #RaiseItUp awareness events

Identify local women who are passionate about poker and are positive role models to be potential volunteer "WPA Advocates" to help "Educate, Elevate & Empower" women. We will enroll, train and support these advocates to expand player participation in #RaiseItUp and increase more women in your room.

RAISE THE GROWTH - Create and support in-house programs around women.

➤ Host women’s tournaments or satellites for larger buy in tournaments
➤ Implement new player training classes/boot camps
➤ Create incentives to encourage participation from women

Imagine the impact the poker industry can make when the #RaiseItUP awareness movement is run on all televised events, live poker tour events, specialty events, and in every day poker & business operations around the world. The message to women would be, “We welcome you to poker”.

Women’s Poker Association supports the #RaiseItUp program and our partners who commit to participate.
