Education, Human Interest and Virtual Excellence Awards Gala

WPAVIRTUALLPWTransWhat was to be a WPA & Vegas Area Casinos collaborative week-long poker festival, fondly known as the ‘Ladies Poker Week’ was instantly gone with the reality of Covid-19. Women’s Poker Association, an all-volunteer professional organization for women poker players chose to feature ladies week as a celebration by hosting a “Virtual Ladies Poker Week”. This week featured daily events such as interviews with prominent poker professionals, poker training sessions, humanitarian features and industry spotlights, all leading up to the WPA Virtual Excellence Awards Gala held online and open to the public on June 20, 2020.

newWPA launched the Player of the Year Program in 2019 allowing for ladies events to be featured with their own leaderboard point system which results in a Player of the Year Award.  2019 saw industry support with an amazing 65 known ladies events in North America and many additional events worldwide exclusively for women players. (We didn’t have a program in place for international events to be included for 2019, but we do for 2020!)

Happy International Women's Day!

Many of you waited patiently for the 2020 WPA Ladies Poker Week schedule for Vegas this Summer. We chose today to announce on International Women’s Day where the world celebrates Women!

For many years, Women had to pick and choose which event to play during Ladies Poker Week. This year, WPA collaborated with Vegas poker rooms to suggest schedule dates to help eliminate this issue. Thank you to The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, ARIA Resort & Casino, Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, World Series of Poker, Golden Nugget Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, SAHARA Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, South Point Hotel Casino & Spa, The Orleans Hotel & Casino, and Wynn Las Vegas poker rooms for their support of WPA and Women in poker!

PokerPowHER Logo Blk Red RGBPOKER POWHER is thrilled to team up with WPA to give more young women a seat at the poker table. We are a club led by women for women of all ages, to teach critical thinking skills, build confidence, develop discipline and the ability to assess risk- all through learning the game of poker.

We’re flipping the table on the status quo, but we can’t do it alone. Through our partnership with WPA, we need more experienced volunteers like you to teach more women to play poker in our area clubs. POKER POWHER has quickly grown from a group of moms and teenage girls to a large network of multi-generational players in seven states.

POKER POWHER sponsors a community-based network of poker-playing clubs. We’re connecting groups of high school girls, female college students, moms and professional women with highly-skilled, female poker instructors.
